‘Cygnus is a northern constellation on the plane of the Milky Way, deriving its name from the Latinized Greek word for swan. Cygnus is one of the most recognizable constellations of the northern summer and autumn, and it features a prominent asterism known as the Northern Cross.’
"Cygnus came into being after I had completed a commission for a Infinity sculpture, the piece of ellipse shaped bronze sheet that remained was calling to be made into a similar but new form. I decided to make a form with the same principle fabrication technique, but making it with a thicker form. The bulkier shape was satisfyingly different and looked best orientated quite differently from Infinity, making the separation between the two even greater.
Cygnus is heavily influenced and inspired by the works of Hepworth and Gabo, who managed to create truly beautiful forms that were very minimal and simple, but at the same time managed to radiate an amazing level of beauty and presence.
I wanted to explore this quality, combining thin rod with a really minimal curved metal form, to see if the resulting sculpture could achieve the same kind of aesthetic appeal and presence. I was extremely satisfied with the outcome and think that the combined materials and the way they were applied worked perfectly".
