I was inspired by all the mountain goats we used to spot when living in the French Alps. I created this bronze wildlife sculpture for the garden so the goat stood proud, and had attitude!
I sculpted this outdoor garden piece in scrim and plaster, so I was able to use the material to exaggerate the goat’s bony body, and his rather large pot belly! I love letting the plaster drip off the ears and allow the material to play its part in creating an animal sculpture.
This bronze outdoor sculpture of a mountain goat was crying out to be positioned on a stone base to make him look powerful and strong. He looks equally punchy on a slight incline or even a flat grass bank, appearing from a cluster of trees. We have placed him in a corner of our garden, peeping from the trees. There is a feeling that he is watching over you, taking care of the house. He comes alive when the sun is out as the vibrant colour of the rust bounces off the green surrounds!
The goat can be cast in bronze as a limited edition of 9 or as a bronze resin, or iron (rust) as you see in the photographs – and this would be a limited edition of 48. In these photographs, the goat is standing on a large piece of Sherborne Stone.
