"The original idea for this piece can be seen in my small bronze maquette figures at the park, Spark I, II and III. They were all inspired by seeing sparks of light and fire which suggested leaping/moving figures to me. The work is all about energy and movement. Theia took on a life of her own, became female and a Goddess; I love the working process where I am never quite sure what the finished piece of work is going to look like, it keeps the work spontaneous and energetic and exciting for me. I had an image of what she would look like at her full height but until all the work was put together I didn't know exactly how she would look. I am delighted with the work and love the site where she has been placed in the park.
Initially, I created the the original work in clay at the bronze foundry (Sculpture Castings in Basingstoke). Once the clay work was completed I handed over to the moulding team (Whites Fine Art Moulding) and then the foundry started the lengthy process of casting the work into bronze using the ancient lost wax process".
