The first in a recent series of work, exploring the importance of our connection with nature. The figure in this work purposely seems in a pose of despair or vulnerability, although this piece has a subtle nod that it is acting more as a symbol for hope. The stark tree grows out from a cavity or hole in the figure, the branches appear dead, empty, or lacking any leaves. On closer inspection, you can see there is one single leaf, suggesting the tree is in fact alive. Maybe just the first leaf of many, a sign of growth, overcoming, or that the worst of the Winter has passed, and a new season is approaching.
