Siempre Tengo Hambre - I'm Always Hungry.
Celebrating the Art and Life of Jazmin Velasco-Moore.
As part of PRINTLAND 2024 we are delighted to be able to offer you the opportunity to meet printmaker Colin Moore at this special book launch event in the gallery.
Colin has embraced the sudden and traumatic loss of his wife, artist Jazmin Velasco in 2001 with a project to compile, select and present a greatly deserved book covering Jazmin's extensive art career.
This art book has been printed in English to a limited edition of 300 copies. It is beautifully compiled as a general introduction to Jazmin's work and at the same time it is a precious collection for those that knew her and bought her work.
The emotive foreward is written by fellow printmaker Mychael Barrett PPRE
'Jazmin Velasco was the most completely and incessantly creative artist that I have ever known, never missing an opportunity to make things. There was artistry in every passion she pursued whether it was gardening, cooking or practising martial arts. Activities often overlapped so that gestural watercolours were painted while she ate; detailed narratives and caricatures were drawn in the margins while she read. And the transference of ideas from that fecund mind to the page was done at breathtaking speed. Her sketchbooks alone could fill the pages of two further volumes and I am certainly thankful that I wasn't the one to choose what to omit.'
This is proceeded by words from Colin with an explanation to the title 'Siempre Tengo Hambre - I'm Always Hungry.'
"I asked if she was hungry. She looked at me earnestly and said: I'm always hungry. This became one of our things, the little routines that couples devise to celebrate their union. I'd ask her if she was hungry and she'd reply: I'm always hungry. She was too; hungry for knowledge, for understanding, for skill, improvement and freedom"
You will also be able to see a selection of Jazmin's ceramics on display from Colin's private collection.
This Dorset Book Launch will be on Saturday 2 November 2024 from 11am to 2pm.
The book is priced at £45 and can be pre ordered.
