This is a very old variety of cherry, originally grown by the Tradescants during the 17th Century, in their orchard and nursery on the site of the Garden Museum in Lambeth. I painted it to celebrate the anniversary of the Tradescants in 2016 and this painting formed part of the accompanying exhibition, Tradescant’s Orchard, at the Garden Museum. I found my specimen growing in Kent at the Brogdale National Fruit Collection.
