This is my sculpture of 24 life size, roosting, Long Tailed Tits, which I’m calling, “The Usual Suspects”.
Long Tailed Tits are tiny little birds, full of energy and character. Naturalists recently discovered (In woodland less than 8 miles from my studio) that, because they are so small, they roost together for warmth in winter, in tightly packed flocks, lined up along branches. Long Tailed Tits often choose holly trees, because the spiny, evergreen leaves help protect them from predators and the worst of the winter weather.
“The Usual Suspects” shows the jostle, to get the best (warmest) spots in the centre of the flock, just before settling down for the night. It also gave me the chance to show off all the individual characters within the flock. I have my favourites, I am sure you will too.
