Elaine discovered her passion for clay while studying for a Ceramics degree at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts in London. Tutored by, now eminent, ceramists, Ewen Henderson, Janice Tchalenko, Glynis Barton, Gordon Baldwin, Ian Gregory, Ian Auld and the late, Colin Pearson. She developed skills in throwing, hand-building, and slip-casting, focusing on texture, colour, and sculptural elements.
Elaine has a long career in teaching art and ceramics and offers specialist ceramic workshops from her garden studio in Wimborne Minster, Dorset.
An award-winning ceramicist, she is recognized as an established British maker. Her work, collected both in the UK and internationally, showcases hand-built techniques in functional and sculptural pieces. Inspired by nature, particularly English landscapes, her art reflects the textures and patterns found in forests, woodlands, and meadows. Elaine's recent work features altered clay slabs with unique textures, hand-painted accents, and imagery inspired by Dorset's natural and architectural heritage. Each piece is individually crafted and unique, the gallery shows Elaines' work that is inspired by the sculpture park's Silver Birch wood and River Frome.
